The Point To Point!
May 30, 2009 by editor · Leave a Comment
The Kinsale Point to Point is upon us once again — Saturday May 30th – Sunday May 31st — and is always a great weekend of fun. Point-to-Pointing is an amateur form of steeplechasing, regulated by the Jockey Club. To qualify to race in a Point-to-Point a horse must have been hunted a minimum of seven times in the current season. Saturday’s first race begins at 5pm with Bar and Band
Sunday is Family day out! There will be a bar, live music, a DJ from Kinsale’s famous White Lady nightclub, a selection of food to suit all tastes and pockets, including Fishy Fishy, the Blue Haven food group, Barracuda Barbeque and Pat Lavin’s traditional chipper. There will, of course, be the hotly contested Best Dressed competitions offering fabulous prizes. Please see separate page for details and conditions.
To keep the kids amused while the grown ups get on with the serious business of enjoying themselves, we have laid on an exciting array of FREE fun and games including a bouncy slide, an obstacle course, pony rides, and face painting. For the first time this year, we will have a toy stall with the proceeds going to help street children in India.
And not forgetting our four-legged friends – our dog show will take place on Sunday afternoon, with a trophy for best dog and rosettes and prizes for other classes including the hilarious Doggy Fancy Dress category.
And best of all – you can leave the car at home and use the free shuttle bus leaving regularly from Kinsale Tourism Office throughout the day.
So for a great day’s entertainment for all the family from daddy to doggy – come to the Kinsale International Point to Point at Farrangalway on Sunday from 1 pm.

Fishy Fishy Shop & Chippie
May 27, 2009 by editor · Leave a Comment
While Fishy Fishy was busy winning the “Most Creative Use of Seafood Award” — (sponsored by BIM Bord Iascaigh Mhara) at the 2009 Irish Restaurant Awards held in Dublin on 13th May 2009 — they were also opening a great Fish & Chipper, just in time for Kinsale’s summer season.
The Fishy Fish Shop & Chippie is located in the center of Kinsale town where the original Fishy Fish Cafe was founded opposite the famous St Multose Church. You can choose to relax, sit down or have a feast of traditional fish & chips while strolling around Kinsale — all at very reasonable prices.
The shop stocks the freshest of local catch and has a range of ready made dishes prepared on site for you to choose from. You can also pick up their Irish Seafood Cookery Book, which owner Martin Shanahan produced in collaboration with Sally McKenna, which will help you cook and serve your fish in true Fishy Fishy style. This is a perfect reference to have in your own kitchen and makes an ideal present for someone who enjoys cooking fish.
Open Tuesday through Saturday : 12.00pm – 4.30pm.
