About World Book Day
World Book Day is the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in Ireland and takes place on Thursday March 1st this year. 2007 is the tenth anniversary of the month long UNESCO event, which celebrates a decade of promoting reading, literacy and a love of books to young people in over 100 countries around the globe.
Children can redeem €1.50 World Book Day Book Tokens for a special WBD book at Bookstór between 26 February and 25 March (one transaction per token while stocks last). The token can also be put towards any book or audio book of the purchaser’s choice over €3.99.
The campaign aims to provide all children with the opportunity to own a book. Participating bookshops fund the entire cost of redemption of the World Book Day €1.50 Book Tokens and are a gift from the bookseller.
There are 11 titles for ten different age groups from bestselling authors such as Julia Donaldson, Jeremy Strong and Anthony Horowitz. Ireland’s own O’Brien’s Press is producing a special €1.50 book ‘The Panda Party’ (5-8yrs), featuring characters from the hugely successful Panda series by Anna Donovan, which will be exclusive to the Irish Market.
