Kinsale Arts Week welcomes three hypnotic, magical and downright sexy stars to its glorious Charles Fort outdoor stage for Arts Week 2010:

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble bring their jazzy, infectious, joyful grooves to the stage for what the President of the United States, Barack Obama, himself says is a performance that ‘soothes the soul’.

The Bootleg Beatles have filled the Royal Albert Hall, the main stage at Glastonbury and even Buckingham Palace with their spectacular stage production featuring the fab four’s classic hits. They plan to turn the clock back to the swinging sixties for their Charles Fort gig.

Camille O’Sullivan, Cork’s most ravishing star, will take command of the fort at Kinsale with her show-stopping, soul-baring, provocative new show.

Tickets for these toe-tapping festival highlights will go on sale this Friday 23 April 2010. The full programme for Kinsale Arts Week will be announced on Wednesday 26 May 2010.

Camille O’Sullivan (Saturday 10 July) has been described as ‘a cross between Sally Bowles, Patti Smith and P J Harvey’, with a ‘voice soaked in paraffin, one spark and the whole room would ignite’. Born in London of Irish and French parents, she spent much of her formative years in Cork, before taking the world by storm with her raunchy yet vulnerable voice and astonishing stage presence. She’s stolen the show on Later With Jools Holland (seriously, google her performance, it’s jaw-dropping), she’s sold out 5-star seasons across the globe and now ‘Ireland’s princess of darkness’ returns to Cork with her exceptional new show. Camille will be supported by one of Ireland’s finest voices and star of The Tudors, Maria Doyle Kennedy.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (Thursday 15 July) is a nine-strong ensemble of infectiously groovesome brass players, with eight of the nine players being sons of the former Sun Ra Arkestra trumpeter Phil Cohran (if you haven’t heard of him, suffice to say it means their playing has pedigree!). They supported Blur’s much anticipated come back gig last year, they collaborate on the recent third Gorilliaz album Plastic Beach and, as Jim Carroll noted in the Irish Times, ‘Those who’ve seen them in full swing on a street corner or a stage will know they can deliver the funk in full’. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will be supported by the All-Nigerian Afrobeat & Highlife band Oleku.

The Bootleg Beatles (Friday 16 July) are as close as you will get to seeing John, Paul, George and Ringo perform live in 2010. Mojo have called them ‘flawless’, The Mail on Sunday ‘mind boggling’ and NME ‘magically real’. If George Martin thinks they are ‘terrific’, then they are most certainly worth a second look. They’ve performed in front of Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, George Martin and the Queen of England. They’ve delighted fans at Glastonbury, The Royal Albert Hall and even on the rooftop of the Apple building at 3, Saville Row. Beatlemania is about to hit Kinsale. Don’t miss it! The Bootleg Beatles will be supported by David Hope and the Henchmen.
