June 27, 2007 by editor
In a bubbling atmosphere, the official opening of Sovereign’s Cup got underway yesterday. Opening the event, Commodore Denis Kieran extended a warm welcome to all competitors who have now arrived in their entirety.
The newly appointed Mayor of Kinsale, Mary Cronin also welcomed competitors to Kinsale, reminding all of the superb food, drink and entertainment which Kinsale town has to offer to young & old alike.
Regatta Director Dave O’ Sullivan noted the increase in entries since the regatta’s inception in 1995 when 55 yachts entered to the 2007 entry of 158. He welcomed back previous double winning skippers Barry Rose and Anthony O’ Leary who will join the other 156 boats to battle it out on the water for the coveted Sovereign’s Cup. He encouraged all crews to sail hard, party harder and have a great time.
